Box Score
BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team wrapped up the Patriot-Inn Huskies Classic on Saturday afternoon with a 64-57 win over the University of the Sciences. Lauren Healey (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) led the way for Bloomsburg, scoring a game-high 16 points.
The Huskies got off to a quick start, as they opened up a 9-0 lead at the 15:55 mark of the first half after a Chantal Hardy (Philadelphia/Harcum College) layup. USP cut the Bloomsburg lead to 9-6 at the 13:26 mark, but Bloomsburg came back with a run of their own over the next few minutes, as they eventually built a 24-14 lead at the 8:25 mark after Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) drained a three pointer., Bloomsburg controlled much of the half from there, but USP made a rally in the half's final minute to make the score 32-28 at the half in favor of Bloomsburg.
In the second half, Bloomsburg got off to another quick start, outscoring USP 10-2 in the first four minutes of the half, which was capped by a Healey layup at the 16:00 minute mark that made the score 42-30. The Huskies then built an insurmountable 53-38 lead at the 9:15 mark after a jumper by Steph Jones (Philadelphia/Manor College). USP, however, would not give up the rest of the contest and actually cut the Bloomsburg lead to 61-57 at the 3:36 mark after a three-pointer by Caitlin Shaw. But, Bloomsburg would go on to hang on for the win with a stout defense that didn't allow USP to score the rest of the contest.
Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Joyce scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
In the opening game, Kristy Leedham scored 19 points to rally Caldwell College past East Stroudsburg, 78-76.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Tuesday when they visit Georgian Court at 6:30 p.m.
